Merkland Tank are looking for a Class 1 Tanker Driver who will be responsible for a variety of tasks outside your vehicle – driving is only part of this excellent opportunity.
Location: Glasgow, G51 3HZ
Starting Salary: £15.00 per hour depending on experience
Contract: Full Time, Permanent (39 hours basic, time and half thereafter)
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Working as part of the team, you’ll have responsibility for setting up hoses and setting up safely on customer sites to support your tank cleaning colleagues.
· You will be a part of a team working on essential infrastructure at commercial sites across mostly Scotland.
· Driver daily checks on vehicle and plant
· Ensure plant is operated in a safe and legal manner
· Setting up and stripping out job
· Operating Vacuum tankers, Liquid Ring tankers, Cyclovac and Jet Vac
· Removal and disposal of waste and clean out tanker
· Flexibility as there can be early starts, late finishes and weekend work
· Working away from home when required
What we need from you:
· You must be an experienced Class 1 Tanker Driver
· You must be physically fit and healthy to pass a medical and able to get security clearance at MOD sites
· Along with your Driver CPC and tachograph knowledge, you’ll need experience of working with hazardous waste
· LGV 1 Driver CPC
· Operating Vacuum tankers
· ADR both tanks and packages – advantage
· Water Jetting – advantage
· Confined Space with rescue – advantage

The Role
As one of our Chargehands, you will play a vital role in what we are famous for. You will be able to work independently and take on the responsibility for the running of and management of both small and large projects. You will be exposed to an interesting variety of work across iconic businesses.
You will be provided with a structured development plan and assistance is available via your Supervisor or Operations Manager. This includes working with and managing multiple onsite subcontractors, delivering on exciting and complex projects/jobs.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Supervisor or Operations team in the planning and managing of projects/works ensuring that all appropriate resources, equipment and materials are in place to support delivery, start, finish and travel times as agreed per each job.
- Have in place any necessary permits that are required prior to work starting.
- Ensure that relevant job pack information and RAMS/SEPA notes are read, and where appropriate, signed prior to any works commencing, returning to the office upon completion.
- Engage and interact regularly with the client to allow for any changes or decisions to be made. This includes attending daily client meetings if required.
- Communicate with colleagues and client on any job changes to keep everyone up to date on progress, whilst keeping track of any additional time and equipment or materials used.
- Resolve or raise any colleague or safety issues with the Operations Manager or Management Team when deemed necessary.
- Maintain high levels of customer service and find opportunities to improve the customer relationship to ensure longer term partnerships

Key Skills and & Experience
- A full UK driving licence
- You must be physically fit and healthy to pass a medical and able to get security clearance at MOD sites
- High Risk Confined Space Certification and Emergency Rescue
- Water Jetting Association Certification
- Previous management of teams or subcontractors experience
- Someone who is highly organised and can successfully plan and deliver work on time for self, client, team and wider colleagues
- Proven commitment to and ability to deliver consistently high levels of work and customer service
- Have a pro-active approach to plan and balance the busy times and quieter times – there will always be something to do
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and self-awareness and ability to work with different groups of people.

The Role:
The Transport and Maintenance Manager is a key role for us and will have overall responsibility and accountability for the vacuum tanker fleet, van fleet and mobile plant of Merkland Tank. Key components of the role will include the continuous improvement of fleet maintenance, driver safety and performance, customer satisfaction, legal and standards compliance as well as cost control.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage the undertakings of the business in line with the Office of the Traffic Commissioner requirements on a restricted operator’s licence.
· Work with other managers to ensure Drivers both drive and operate tankers to a high standard, providing a framework for the assessment and monitoring of driver skills and risks.
· Support recruitment and induction of drivers.
· Ensure that daily vehicle checks and preventative maintenance is both documented and carried out to a high standard.
· Liaise with supply chain to manage supply of new tankers and ensure current fleet is maintained / MOT’d /serviced/ repaired to right standard.
· Where possible conduct (personally or with mechanically competent employees) repairs internally.
· Develop relationships with third party providers (providing either short-term tanker rental or a full sub-contract service) and monitor their service standards and costs.
· Maintain and develop all transport related accreditations.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives
· Work with QHSE to manage work related road risk across the business, developing programmes to monitor and reduce risk.
· Work with insurers to reduce the value and number of insurance claims, identifying trends and developing action plans to reduce at fault motor incidents.
· Drive periodic audits and inspections of vehicles and loads to ensure compliance with all legislation and company polices.
· Identify, manage and put in place policies to protect against third party haulage risks ensuring that agreements are in place to protect the business.
The successful candidate will be provided with various types of training to assist them with their duties and tasks.
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
· Proven track record of leading an industrial services transport function within an operational environment
· CPC Licence holder including ADR Guidance.
· Preferably, been a mechanic and/or a Driver (HGV Licence Holder)
Skills and Attributes:
· Ability to think strategically, execute effectively and maintain high levels of energy and commitment.
· Strong people leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor and lead from the front.
