Merkland Tank Awarded 2025 ESG Innovator: Recognition Built on Action
Merkland Tank is proud to be recognised by Avetta as a 2025 ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Innovator! This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable, responsible practices aligned with Avetta’s core values of Safety, Sustainability and Security.
By championing transparency and actively reducing environmental and social risks, we’re proud to be helping set the standard for our industry. We continue to integrate sustainability into our operations where possible, and strengthen partnerships with clients who share our vision for a sustainable future.
Thanks to our HSE & Compliance Manager, Thomas Hopkins, for taking the lead on our sustainability journey, and many thanks to our entire team for their ongoing commitment and valued contributions to our important ESG initiatives!
Merkland Tank’s Environmental Innovation & Social Responsibility
Merkland Tank are proud to take part in a number of sustainability and social responsibility initiatives:
- In 2025, we successfully completed the first year of the Net Zero Nation Accelerator programme. This intensive initiative demonstrated our intent to measure, understand and reduce our carbon footprint. The programme provided us with the frameworks and expertise needed to set meaningful carbon reduction targets while maintaining operational excellence in demanding industrial environments.
- As part of the Net Zero Accelerator programme, earlier last year Thomas joined our Business Development Manager, Stuart Chalmers, at a local Net Zero Accelerator event hosted by Forth Ports, where, alongside like-minded organisations, they explored various approaches to carbon reduction and the opportunities within a circular economy – concepts that directly align with Merkland’s operations.
- In early 2025, Merkland Tank attended the Petroineos Careers Day, organised following the announcement of the planned closure of its Grangemouth site. Merkland’s Business Development Managers, Stuart Chalmers and Lukasz Syput, joined 25 exhibitors at the event to provide valuable information on opportunities within the sector and potential roles at Merkland Tank to those workers affected by the closure.
We’ve learnt a lot so far on our sustainability journey, and we look forward to exploring how we can progress further this year and beyond.
