We carry out a full range of oil tank inspection, pipeline inspection and pipeline pigging services on an ad-hoc or programmed basis to ensure that you comply with changing industry regulations.
Oil Storage Tank & Pipeline Inspection
Regular oil tank, IBC and pipeline inspections are essential to minimise the risk of tank failure, fuel contamination and potentially hazardous leakage, all of which can have significant financial and environmental impact.
With decades of experience, Merkland Tank can carry out inspection of storage tanks and pipelines on an ad-hoc or programmed basis to ensure that you are fully compliant at all times with changing environmental regulations.
Benefits of Oil Storage Tank & Pipeline Inspection:
• Early identification of issues will be less costly and disruptive to production
• Avoid or minimise the environmental and financial consequences of oil spillage
• High quality product consistently delivered - especially when ensuring backup generators have fuel when needed
• Peace-of-mind compliance with current industry regulations.
ADR Tank Inspection
UN certified Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) for the storage of fuel, chemicals or other hazardous materials require mandatory 2.5 year and 5 year inspections to ensure they remain fit for purpose and meet the standard of an IBC under current ADR regulations.
At least every 2.5 years, IBCs must be inspected and tested to check the external condition of the container and associated equipment and pipework. It must be pressure tested for leaks and inspected to make sure it meets the required current design specifications.
In addition to the 2.5 year inspection, every 5 years the tank containers should be subject to an internal inspection. This requires the IBC to be cleaned in preparation for checking the internal condition and markings for any defects, cracks and corrosion.
Merkland Tank technicians are fully qualified to carry out such inspections and pressure testing, and are all trained in confined space rescue. They will supply you with the necessary inspection certificate to allow you to retain a complete record of all inspections and results, as required by law.
Our Inspection Services
It is your responsibility to make sure all existing tanks comply with industry regulations. In order to comply with EA, SEPA, DEFRA and HSE regulations, oil storage tanks and oil supply pipes must be checked at least annually by a competent person.
Merkland Tank can carry out your annual tank inspections, working to Guidance for Pollution Prevention: Above Ground Oil Storage Tanks GPP2. An oil tank inspection carried out by one of our OFTEC registered technicians will include a check on your tanks, pipework and secondary containment (visual inspection on the bund construction and report any defects).
We will provide a full written report on the state of your tank after the inspection is complete, along with clear recommendations on any upgrades or changes to maintenance procedures and/or schedules, and cost estimates for the works to ensure your compliance with current regulations.
Merkland Tank provides pipeline pigging services for a variety of cleaning and inspection applications in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Water sectors.
Our Pipeline Pigging solutions are used on projects of all sizes to remove build-up of contaminants such as water, water scale, crude, sludge, sediment and minerals which, if left untreated, will reduce the flow and efficiency of the pipeline.
Our pigging services are proven to be the safest and fastest solution to support on-going planned maintenance, inspections and the de-commissioning of pipelines to ensure that no product or debris remains in situ.
We have the in-house expertise to manage the pigging process for pipeline diameters from 6”to 30” using a wide variety of pipeline pigs designed to assist with the specific cleaning process and product demands.
Alongside our Pipeline Pigging Solutions, we offer an Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) Water Jetting service – with pressure up to 40,000 psi – to flush out all residue and remove any remaining washings using a powerful 1800 CFM Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump.
